We have a passion for well-cut, workwear inspired garments made from beautiful natural fabrics.

We make less, not more, creating a small number of products to the highest standard we possibly can. Everything is tried and tested, and if we won’t wear it, it won't make it into the collection.

Ours is an intimate hands-on process: patterns are mindfully crafted, fabrics are pre-shrunk or over-dyed in small lots, our buttons are stitched on by hand with many garments finished by the team in the METRO= studio. We work with small producers and manufactures in South Africa, as well as independent seamstresses in Cape Town who work from home. Our garments are made for wearing everyday and to last for years to come while respecting and supporting our South African clothing industry and the people we work with.

WHY METRO?

CAPE TOWN’S NICKNAME “THE MOTHER CITY” WAS EAGERLY ADOPTED BY RESIDENTS IN THE 1930’S AFTER IT WAS CLAIMED BY A LOCAL REPORTER TO BE SOUTH AFRICA'S FIRST METROPOLIS. THE WORD METROPOLIS IS DERIVED FROM THE GREEK ‘METROS’ MEANING MOTHER & ‘POLIS’ MEANING CITY. AND HENCE, METRO= THE BRAND, PROUDLY ROOTED IN CAPE TOWN.
