METRO= SHIBORI CASHMERE SCARF / LEEK GREEN ON TWEED GREY
These scarves are one of our products that aren’t completely made in Cape Town and even that wouldn’t be overstating it!
It’s a bit of a trip actually as they are woven in Kashmir and then make their way about 700km down the valley between the mountains to Jaipur (hopefully by donkey as it makes a much better story). Jaipur is famous for the Japanese shibori dyeing technique, a manual resist dip dye technique that results in unique, uneven patterns across the scarves. The magic happens where the bleach or dye, or both, bleed and fade into its neighbour creating wonderful nuances of colour that can’t be planned. It’s such a good thing, that accidental magic making every scarf unique! They eventually arrive in our studio for finishing. Fringes are frayed (laboriously, one weft yarn at a time) and labels are stitched on.
Hold on tight to this special piece or someone will borrow it and never give it back.
